Zilker Theatre Productions Welcomes New Leadership Team Members
ZTP expands its leadership team to create an inspired 60th anniversary Zilker Summer Musical season in Summer 2018
Austin, October 25, 2017 — Zilker Theatre Productions welcomes new Artistic Director, J. Robert “Jimmy” Moore, and Director of Production, Shannon Richey, to our Leadership Team. Using their talents and expertise, ZTP will continue to fulfill it’s mission to provide the entire community with access to exceptional performing arts experiences. For our 60th anniversary season, the ZTP team looks forward to celebrating the beloved tradition of the Zilker Summer Musical by bringing the Elvis-inspired musical comedy All Shook Up, to our Central Texas audiences, and to Austin visitors from across the globe.
With a background in musical theatre, development, and event planning, Jimmy will join Executive Director Kate Hix as co-leader of the ZTP team as they focus on our 60th anniversary season and expand our educational outreach in the community. Ms. Hix remarks, ”Jimmy brought exceptional leadership skills to the team as the Director of The Wizard of Oz this past summer, and we welcome his artistic vision as we head into this historic 60th anniversary season. Fans of The Zilker Summer Musical are in for a treat with Jimmy’s exciting take on this summer’s All Shook Up and the festivities surrounding the show.”
Originally from South Texas, J. Robert Moore is a stage director, actor, and educator who attained a B.F.A. in Production and Performance from Texas State University. Over the years, he has gained theatrical credits with companies across the country, including his work Off-Broadway and at Madison Square Garden, in New York City. Additionally, Mr. Moore has studied with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Shakespeare’s Globe Theater, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in England.  He returned to the South Texas community in 2013 to complete his M.F.A. in Directing at Texas State. Jimmy notes that he is “thrilled to be joining the ZTP family on The Hillside, and to be creating more opportunities for youth to experience the magic of live musical theatre.”
As ZTP’s new Director of Production, Shannon Richey brings her expertise as the Properties Designer on ZTP’s The Sound of Music, Little Shop of Horrors, Oklahoma!, and Shrek The Musical, and as a co-producer on ZTP’s The Wizard of Oz. Additionally, Shannon continues her work as Texas State University’s Professor of Stage Management. Previous community leadership roles have included working with many of Austin’s leading theaters including Summer Stock Austin as the Company Coordinator and Stage Management Supervisor. Shannon is also proud to have served as a member of the production team for the Greater Austin High School Musical Theatre Awards (GAHSMTA).

Follow The Yellow Brick Road to Zilker Park

Zilker Theatre Productions has collaborated with other Zilker and Austin-based organizations to highlight this summer’s Zilker Summer Musical — The Wizard of Oz and the centennial celebration of Zilker Park.

The campaign, which focuses on literacy and STEAM for youth, consists of a virtual scavenger hunt distributed via social media, websites, and visuals that can be viewed and downloaded online with a scavenger hunt clue to lead the “Yellow Brick Road adventurer” to each of the participating organization’s free events.

Fun bookmarks with information on the free events and the participating organizations will be created and handed out at Zilker Park events, Austin Public Libraries, and BookPeople starting June 17, 2017.

The journey to Zilker Park’s Yellow Brick Road begins on June 17th at BookPeople’s Summer Kickoff Party – with WOZ Storytime and Costume Contest. The Wizard of Oz runs at the historic Zilker Hillside Theater from July 7 – August 12, 2017.
